Movement-based Somatic Therapy

The Highpoint Method

The Highpoint Method of somatic therapy is grounded in the Five Step Balance Process of the Educational Kinesiology/Brain Gym® model of body-based neural re-education. This process holds the key to rapid and effective mind-body transformation. The techniques that are used—purposefully designed movements, touch points, and gentle, manual manipulation—directly stimulate the nervous system to actively re-wire the neurobiological patterns that have resulted from ongoing stress and distress, traumatic events, and coping behaviors.

While new neural pathways are laid down and others are re-organized, many things happen simultaneously as trapped emotions are metabolized and the neural system is recalibrated: vagal tone is improved, thus reducing reactivity to people and events in your life (read The Power of the Vagus Nerve: Renewal, Regenerations, and Connection); tension that is stored at the cellular level is released; stuck emotional energy dissipates; and you gain clarity, bringing new perspectives that reintegrate parts of yourself into a new wholeness of mind and body. You will find that you inhabit your body differently and that you navigate your world in an entirely new way.

The session begins with some gentle, sensory movements that bring the nervous system into a state that is malleable and receptive to change. I will then guide you in experiencing your body from within to become attuned to what you are sensing and feeling internally, and what it is that you would like to change—how you want to be different. Through this guided awareness, you will begin to connect with associated memory networks related to your trauma or upset without re-experiencing the trauma itself.

It is through an “awakening” of the full spectrum of neural networks related to your trauma that allows for a deep and broadening change to happen.

Once the full neural spectrum has been awakened, I will guide you through specific movement patterns to re-wire and re-align your neural system. As the tension in your nervous system is released, you will begin to experience a state of inner calm and a feeling of being grounded and centered, generating an empowered sense of self and wholeness. The designed movements, touch points, and manual manipulation create immediate and lasting change.
