Somatic Therapy

Private Sessions

Learn what you can expect during a private movement-based somatic therapy session.

STEP ONE

Experience your body from within

I will guide you to experience your body from within—what is your internal experience of the stressful situation or event? How does it feel in your body, what sensations are you aware of? This is a foundational principle of somatic therapy, the “felt sense.” We then identify what it is that you are missing and want to have in place of the distressing feelings. For example, feeling safe or feeling loved, strong and confident, loveable, or connected with yourself are all healing and transformational states of being. Theses inner state may be ones that you have never experienced—yet. This becomes the “goal” for the session.

STEP TWO

Experience the healing power of designed movement and touch

At this point, we have identified the neural network that we want to re-align—without re-experiencing the trauma itself—and have begun to move your system toward the positive goal.

I will now guide you through specific, designed movements, meridian touch points, or gentle manual manipulation techniques that will re-align your neural system to disconnect the neural network established that resulted from the trauma or sustained distress. This is a refreshing process. You will experience relief and a sense of newness. These very simple techniques re-wire your neural system almost immediately, right there in the session.

STEP THREE

Experience future pacing as your mind follows your body

Once your neural system is re-wired, you will experience a sense of calm and a feeling of being grounded and centered, experiencing a sense of wholeness.

We then consider the impact on how you react to and relate to the events and people in your life. In the field of NLP, this is called ‘future pacing’ and is an important part of the change process because we are creating new connections between your body’s new experience and your mind. Mind and body work together so we take a moment to reconnect them at this point. The mind follows the body.
