Our Very First Contact

 

For those interested in finding out if Highpoint Mind & Movement would benefit you, I offer a complimentary 20-minute consultation via phone, virtually, or in-person. This gives you a chance to ask the questions you might have, learn more about somatic therapy and whole brain integration, and determine which approach is best for you (or your child). I will also explain what to expect from the process. We’ll discuss your needs and determine if we will be a good fit for working together.

Your First Appointment

 

Our work together begins with an online Intake form which provides me with important history and background information. At our first meeting, we will briefly review this information and then move directly into the therapy process.

CHILDREN

When working with children, the parent/guardian fills out an online Child Assessment prior to our first meeting. I meet with the parent/guardian alone at the first appointment so that we can talk freely about your child. We will go over the Assessment in detail to clarify specific, measurable goals for your child. These goals assist me in meeting your desired outcomes for your child. Both parents/guardians are welcome and encouraged to be involved.

 

On-going Sessions

 

Each session runs 45 to 60 minutes and will include setting the stage for change by identifying your goal or intention for the session and determining the appropriate body-centered techniques for this goal. As I guide you through the process, you will likely be aware of a shift in thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, and attitude. Pre- and post-measures are taken to track the changes experienced.

AT HOME

The methods used to refresh and “rewire” the brain-body connections are extremely simple. They can easily be done at home to support the deep work experienced in session. Over time, you may develop your own personal toolkit of refresher techniques to use whenever needed.

CHILDREN

Children’s sessions are usually 30 to 40 minutes. There is often follow-up with the parent via email or phone so that we do not discuss the child with them present.

Children are typically accompanied by their parent or guardian as a silent observer. This allows the parent to become familiar with the techniques, which can, if desired, be incorporated into a routine at home. It is also very rewarding to observe the changes your child is experiencing.

 

Milestones

 

After a few sessions, we will review your goals and evaluate the progress made. We can then revise or establish new goals as needed and determine how many additional sessions may be helpful.

Generally, both adults and children need about 10 to 20 sessions to feel satisfied that they have achieved the change they want and have the tools needed to maintain their new level of being. Or, you may want to continue with sessions, working toward new goals or expanding the depth of change already experienced..
